Kate Davies

STUDIO DIRECTOR, BIKRAM YOGA, POWER YOGA, INFERNO HOT PILATES

Kate_Davies_Yo_Bk_yoga.jpg

Kate was lucky to find Bikram Yoga during her first semester of college and is still best friends with the girl who brought her to class. She attended Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Fall 2011 in Los Angeles and the 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises will always be her first love! Kate is certified in Baptiste Power Yoga and Inferno Hot Pilates, Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Kate loves the variety of Bikram, Power and Hot Pilates and is proud to offer these three very different, yet complimentary classes in one amazing community. Over the years, she has practiced for health, exercise, meditation and alone time. Yoga and Pilates help Kate know herself better and introduce her to the most amazing people.

Before becoming a yoga teacher and opening YO BK, Kate taught Kindergarten in China and Thailand — she is continually amazed that her students here listen to her! Her other passions are hip-hop, cooking (usually Asian food), devouring novels and getting lost in her hometown of NYC.

LILLITH FALLON

STUDIO MANAGER, INFERNO HOT PILATES

Lillith034.jpg

Lillith was introduced to Bikram Yoga by her loving and persistent mother, Kathy. It was with love and persistence, and sometimes persistence and then love that Lillith developed a Bikram practice. Fast forward to 6 years later and she's still spending a large portion of her week on her mat, at a YO BK where Lillith is thrilled to practice and teach Inferno Hot Pilates. The combination of HIIT Pilates and a hot yoga practice is incredibly beneficial and keeps you motivated. When she isn't on the mat, she is in normal clothing pursuing a career in acting, exploring the city and looking for new and exciting ways to be cheeky. Come practice and have fun!

Riji Suh

BIKRAM YOGA, HOT VINYASA

Riji_Suh_Yo_bk_Yoga.jpg

Riji is happy to join the new and growing YO BK yoga family and to be part of the (r)evolution of yoga in Brooklyn. As a native Queens-NYC girl who grew up playing basketball in rival school gyms and asphalt courts in BK parks, it is meaningful to return to teach and practice yoga in blossoming Williamsburg. One of her favorite things about YO BK is the view of the bridge, always perfectly satiating to the heart, whether during a pinkish sunrise, bluish midday, ruddy reddish sunset, or pitch black night.

Riji has been teaching the Bikram Method since Fall of 2006, and she is honored to have been part of the staff for two Honolulu Teacher Trainings, learning under the precise guidance of phenomenal teaching legends, some gone, some here... She is also thankful to have studied under the compassionate masterful tutelage of Sri Dharm Mittra and has taught his style since completing his Teacher Training in 2010. Besides her work in studios around NY, Riji teaches private clients through a language that is always extending and expanding from and within her personal consciousness and connection: a nonstop flow and weaving of all of her studies, teachings and life exxperiences on and off the yoga mat. On her off the mat time, Riji is a model and creative spirit working in fashion and media in New York City.

FRANK KING

BIKRAM YOGA, YIN YOGA, HOT VINYASA

FullSizeRender.jpg.jpeg

Frank began practicing Bikram Yoga in January 2009. Out of shape and unhappy with his poor health, he was determined to turn his life around.

Frank felt a transformation after his first class. Bikram Yoga has allowed him to strengthen his body, increase flexibility, and improve balance; while also calming and focusing his mind. Four years later, he was awarded a scholarship to attend Bikram's Teacher Training in Spring of 2013.

In addition to teaching full-time, Frank works with “One posture at a Time” teaching yoga in treatment facilities for individuals in recovery from substance abuse. He is truly grateful to this yoga and believes in its healing abilities.

Natalie Jones

Natalie is stoked to be a part of the the one and only YO BK familia. She was born and raised in the green mountains of Vermont where she first started teaching. Nicknamed “Low Maintenance” at age 6 by her babysitter, who would often seek advice and comfort from Natalie, it was clear at an early age that she was a natural healer and leader. She struggled to maintain a regular fitness and meditation practice until she discovered yoga in 2005. It has been the one constant in her life that has brought her an abundance of joy and peace.

When she became an instructor in 2011 she knew she wanted to help people to heal and empower themselves. Since then she has trained in numerous modalities and disciplines, including Inferno Pilates, Baptiste Yoga and Mindset Coaching, which she practices through her company Make Me Awesome. It is her belief that any path to wellness needs to be a holistic one that begins with physical health and then mindfulness. Spontaneous and fun, she loves to make her students and clients feel good and laugh along the way.

She currently resides in Williamsburg with her cat, and continues to teach and see clients when she is in Vermont. Always seeking balance, she loves her busy city life with restorative jaunts to the country. She also loves cheeseburgers.

Camille is a recent transplant from the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. She began practicing hot yoga in 2010 when a friend half-dragged her to a Bikram class. It was hot, hard, and humbling. It felt so good to go to bed the good kind of tired and wake up the good kind of sore. So the next day she went back, and the next, and 8 years later she can’t live without it.

She participated in a work-trade for free yoga at her local studio where she began to develop deeper relationships with her fellow students and teachers. The loving community that is the ‘yoga world’ inspired Camille to go to teacher training and in 2014 she became a certified Vinyasa teacher by Hot House Yoga in Richmond, VA. She has experience teaching both Barkan and Baptise methods.

In her time off the mat Camille works for a craft beer company that sells tasty heady brews. She is also a hoop dance instructor and an experienced vegetarian cook. Camille joined the work-study program here at YO BK when she moved to NYC and fell in love with the space, the teachers, and the students. She is so excited to teach ya’ll and can’t want to see you on your mat.

STEFANI ROSE

POWER YOGA

Stefani reluctantly went to a Power Yoga class with a friend in 2008 and has continued to show up daily on her mat since. It didn’t take her long to realize she wanted to do a teacher training to share with others the practice that allowed her to enjoy her own company, deepen relationships and experience the love and support of community.

In 2009, Stefani completed her first Power Yoga training in her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Since then, she has studied with Baron Baptiste and Laughing Lotus. Stefani is continuously looking for ways to share her love of yoga. She is an ambassador for Africa Yoga Project.

Sara Corenzwit

BIKRAM YOGA

Sara began her yoga journey in Manhattan in 2008. After her first Bikram class, she felt the best she had in years, floating home as if she was high on a drug. It must have been magic, cast during her very first camel pose. For the next few years, she found yoga to be a wonderful release from working long hours at advertising agencies in NYC and Boulder, CO. It was in early 2014 after a retreat in Costa Rica when she chose to fully reap the benefits of a regular practice. From this she experienced many positive changes in her life, and it wasn’t long before she left her corporate job and attended Bikram teacher training in Thailand, the fall of 2015. She has since completed a 10-day Vipassana meditation course in Jaipur, India and a 200-hr training combining the 8 limbs of Yoga with Chinese Medicine.

Sara is also certified as a Functional Medicine Health Coach and writes code to make websites. You can occasionally find her on an improv stage in New York. She is passionate about the healing capabilities of Yoga that branch out to every aspect of life, and she truly loves witnessing all types of beautiful humans showing up on their mat to work on themselves; in turn improving the quality of life for all of us on this planet.

SARA Holms

POWER YOGA, INFERNO HOT PILATES

Sara grew up doing ballet, jazz, and modern dance in California. She started practicing Bikram Yoga in 2007 to move, stretch, and strengthen her body outside of dance. She kept up her yoga practice off and on through the years, but it wasn’t until she moved to Brooklyn in 2011, and then to Buffalo, New York in 2014, that she started to practice hot yoga regularly as a way to make it through the cold winters. In Buffalo, she discovered Baptiste Power Yoga and it was love at first chaturanga. After moving back to Brooklyn in 2016, Sara found a home at YoBk and has since completed her Baptiste Level 1 training to become certified to teach. When she’s not teaching and practicing, Sara is also an avid meditator, singer, writer, sometimes dancer, entrepreneur, goal-setter, and all-around renaissance woman. She’s also a gemini, but don’t hold that against her.

JP Purwin

BIKRAM YOGA, YIN YOGA

JP started practicing yoga in 2004 with a retro Denise Austin videotape. After college, she started doing Bikram Yoga to deal with the stress of her job. Knowing a good thing when she saw one, JP went on to complete Bikram teacher training and yin yoga training in 2013 and 2014. Eager to learn more about yoga, both physically and spiritually, JP began her Ashtanga yoga practice in 2013. JP’s interest in healing through movement propelled her to return to school and pursue physical therapy. Today, she attends NYU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program, and assuming she keeps her sanity and remembers to sleep sometimes, she will graduate with her DPT in 2020. JP is also a CSCS, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with NSCA, and is trained in basic Pilates mat instruction through Polestar Pilates. When she is not practicing yoga, studying or talking someone’s ear off about pelvic floor physical therapy, JP enjoys playing with her cat, King George, exploring Brooklyn and doing strength and plyometric training.

Siobhan Edwards

INFERNO HOT PILATES

Siobhán was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i and although she has lived everywhere from Paris to Tokyo to Brooklyn, she is and always will be a local island girl. She hates wearing shoes, she is most comfortable in shorts and a bikini with her hair tied in a knot. She loves the color red but usually wears black, she talks like a teenager, she loves the beach but thrives on the energy of the city, she is always down to eat, she loves to dance, and especially loves to dance with her kids, blasting old school R&B and hip hop while making dinner. Siobhan was first introduced to Pilates and Yoga at the tender age of 5 by her mother and the 1970’s PBS exercise program “Lilias, Yoga and You.” Captivated by the serenity and grace of the flow along with the strength and athleticism of the movements, Siobhán would voluntarily wake up at the crack of dawn to join in on her mother’s daily exercise regime. 40 years later, she still wakes up at the crack of dawn for her own daily exercise regime. After decades (literally) dabbling as a dance teacher, as a fitness model, and as everyone’s go-to yoga, pilates and fitness buddy, Siobhán is finally following her heart, her childhood dream of teaching pilates and having the opportunity to support and encourage others to challenge themselves physically with the intention of inspiring themselves mentally and spiritually. She recently completed the Inferno Hot Pilates Teacher Training and feels blessed to join the extraordinary family of teachers at YoBK. When Siobhán is not on her mat or busy working her day job at Simon Sinek’s Start With Why, Siobhán is raising her 5, yes 5, kids in Brooklyn.

Alexa Bull

POWER YOGA, INFERNO HOT PILATES

Alexa found a daily yoga practice not long after moving to NYC 3 years ago. Needing something to ground her busy lifestyle, yoga became more than just a physical practice. From her first visit to YO.BK, she was hooked on the energy, the passion of the students and teachers as well as the strong sense of community. She is so excited to be teaching in this space that means so much to her. She is grateful to her teachers and mentors over the last few years that have inspired her practice on and off the mat. Alexa recently completed her Level One Baptiste Yoga training with Baron Baptiste in Sedona and cannot wait to keep learning and growing within the Baptiste Methodology. She is also currently completing her 200-hour RYT training in NYC. When not practicing or teaching, she enjoys traveling with her husband, cooking, drawing and reading.

Kathy Li

POWER YOGA

Kathy grew up in San Diego, California and started practicing Power Yoga in 2012 as a complement to classical ballet training. She found freedom in the flow and joy in discovering new physical and mental strength. She developed a regular Vinyasa practice at her local studio in San Diego. In 2017, Kathy discovered YO BK when she moved to Brooklyn, New York. She was hooked on Inferno Hot Pilates, but inevitably her true love was for yoga and here she discovered Baptiste Power Yoga. Claude Sharpe

INFERNO HOT PILATES

FB_IMG_1558137305132.jpg

Claude was born and raised in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. As a youngster he frequently played tag in the abandoned buildings in the neighborhood, including the space that is now YO BK! Claude is a former college basketball player who attended school in upstate New York. He moved back to Williamsburg and is currently teaching middle school physical education. He also coaches varsity basketball at his alma mater, Eastern District high school.

Claude got into Bikram yoga and Inferno Hot Pilates two years ago to gain strength and improve flexibility. During his journey he discovered how well his body responded to both modalities and wanted to further his knowledge, thus becoming an Inferno instructor. He is excited to be teaching at YO BK, as well as introducing this effective conditioning to his high school team and PE students. When Claude's not practicing or teaching you can find him on local basketball courts and dance floors.

Amanda Krol

INFERNO HOT PILATES

IMG_0402.jpg

Amanda was born and raised in Greenpoint and hopes to never leave! As a young girl and throughout high school, she loved playing basketball. In college, she focused on her studies and graduated as valedictorian of her class. After college, Amanda became a NYC school teacher. She began experimenting with different workout styles and was introduced to Inferno Hot Pilates at YO BK in May of 2017. She fell in love with this high intensity interval training and attended teacher training in February of 2018 in order to bring this amazing workout to others. When deciding to become an instructor, she envisioned herself teaching at a studio like YO BK — dreams come true when you work hard for them!

When Amanda is not on her mat, you can find her coaching middle school girls’ basketball or teaching her middle school students about Pilates. In her free time, you can find her taking some type of online class because she really is a nerd at heart.

TANETRA HOWARD

POWER YOGA

Born in Memphis and raised in Mississippi, Tanetra spent much of her childhood competing in cheer competitions or memorizing choreography from Beyonce and JLo music videos. After attempting to rehabilitate a knee injury during the Fall of 2015, she started to look at other modalities to maintain her health. She was not keen on weight lifting due to the absence of movement and fluidity. In April 2016, she took the plunge and joined a hot yoga studio in her college town of Oxford, MS. For many years, the timing of her school schedule and teacher training did not align, but in August of 2019 she completed Level 1 training with the Baptiste Institute. When she moved to New York on January 1, 2018, she was seeking a yoga studio that offered more cardiovascular exercise. She discovered IHP and sought studios in the city that offered both modalities. It was an easy choice to make her studio home YO BK, and you can typically find her at afternoon classes because she usually finds the snooze button in the morning. When she is not at the studio, she is either working her job as an accountant, eating Davey’s Salted Caramel Ice Cream, at Domino Park, binging Bob’s Burger, or auditioning for Guinness’ world records longest naptime.
